The series for real GDP and real per capita GDP used are taken from the databases of Angus Maddison, who passed away earlier in 2010, his web page has the main spreadsheet (Statistics on World Population, GDP and Per Capita GDP, 1-2008 AD) under Historical Databases. This data is updated and complemented with the consistent approach used to construct the University of Groningen's Total Economy Database (TED) for most of the countries in the Maddison's worldwide coverage and the less comparable but more timely data from the IMF's World Economic Outlook. The Groningen Growth and Development Centre also houses the Historical National Accounts Database, which is another important source for historical series on real and nominal GDP.
